Drei DIY-Projekte aus dem Winter, die mein Smart Home heller gemacht haben: eine 3D-gedruckte Flurlampe, eine Lampe aus einer Wodkaflasche und eine selbstgebaute Konsole.

Three DIY Lighting Projects for a Smarter Home

As winter arrived in big steps, there was more time for the things that matter in winter: light. Lighting is central for me, and I love playing with it in the smart home, so I printed my own hallway lamp and built it around an ESP32.

An old 1.5L vodka bottle also turned into a perfect lamp once it was empty. The pattern creates a real party atmosphere.

And the highlight? Is it a PS3? Is it a computer? Is it a Steam Machine? No, it is my self-built console. Before the Steam Machine was announced, I grabbed an old PS3 case, older PC hardware, and installed SteamOS. With emulators, games like Mario 64, FIFA 10, or GTA San Andreas play perfectly, and of course it comes with the right lighting.

Across all three projects I use ESP32 for control and seamless integration into the existing smart home system. The RGB strips use WS2812 chips, which let me control each LED individually, so cool effects are possible.
